Since this site started, the 4 billion grains donated are only about 400 bags (100# bags). And it used up the equivalent of 55 YEARS of full-time work to get those bags. Also, I read that the person who owns this site is running it as a "for profit" site, not a 501c3 and is not obligated to reveal anything. Depending on how the advertisers pay, the owner could be making a dollar for every penny of rice that is purchased.

As a vocabulary builder, you decide if this is worth your time. As a way to use your time wisely for charity, it is kind of like buying bottled water. ;)

I found this slickdeals and use it as a tool in my English classes. It's great for learning root words and prefixes. The kids loved it. And for no other reason than it might keep them off of myspace for about two seconds, it's worth it.
 

According to the BBC, enough rice has already been donated (in less than 2 months) to feed 50,000 people for 1 day. While that may seem insignificant, I doubt it is to those 50,000 people who didn't go to sleep hungry for one night.

Also interesting is that the developer of this site is the same guy who developed poverty.com AND thehungersite.com. The connection with The World Food Programme also makes this contribution seem legit.
 

unbelievable. i cant wait for the final project. we are planning a spring trip to thailand and this puts an entirely new lens over the 'beauty' of the country.
