You May Now Turn Your Tassel...

Between banquets, consecration services, baccalaureates, dinners with family and friends, official ceremonies, open houses, and trying to pack up my possessions, you'd be safe to say that the past three days were a whirlwind. I would have to say an exhilerating whirlwind, of the kind that leaves you straining for the next breath, but knowing that you just experienced something that was one of a kind.
My thanks goes out to every single person who either gave a physical gift or a gift of time and effort to make this weekend so signigicant and special. It really has helped me both celebrate as well as bring closure to some pretty amazing times at IWU. I appreciate you and your love and care in my life.

The ALL OUT highlight of the day definitely goes to Dave Schmerse - Mark Schmerse's dad - who was the embodiment of a servant this afternoon when he helped Mark and I clean out our room without any questions or strings attached! He knows that its all about going ALL OUT for the kingdom, even in the small things.

What's New?

[Dedicated to the 2 patient but faithful readers of paulkind.blogspot.com]
What could possibly happen in the course of a couple weeks? Oh, you know...a little of this and a little of that:

Let's see, I hiked the Knobstone Trail in Southern Indiana over Easter. That makes three out of the last four Easter breaks spent on the Knobber. (See pictures here.) It is a beautiful 45-mile trail that covers over 20,000ft of elevation gain and loss! I was with my dad and a crew of hikers from the IWU backpacking class, including professor Drury. We not only had a blast, but we managed to finish the entire trail in a record setting two and a half days.

What else? Esther Rosentrater, my girlfriend, and I have been striving to make the most of our time together. Starting a little over two weeks from now there won't be a whole lot of time available to try and make the most of. At least we will be in the same state this summer - Colorado. But odds are we aren't going to be able to spend much more than a day together each week. Then come September a day a week turns into just about zilch for eighth months (in person that is)! She is a fantastic woman...she continues to amaze me with her passion for loving God and consistent vulnerability in communication.

Oh, one more thing. School is over! I turned in my last college assignment EVER this afternoon. That dinky little 4-pager was in a sense representative of piles and piles of projects, tests, papers, and other assignments that I've tackled over the past four years. I cannot explain to you the variety of emotions that I've experienced today. My feelings have been as varied as the colors in the rainbow.

First ever... ALL OUT highlight of the day (exemplifying ALL OUT passion for the Kingdom): This award goes to my former mentee & current friend Josh Fowler thanking me for the investment that I had made in his life the year before. He truly went ALL OUT by doing what has become so rare, even in the Church: communicating gratitude and encouragement in a meaningful way. Thanks Josh, you are a cut above!

Things to come...

Today Mark Schmerse and I spent a solid two hours planning and strategizing as to what our web-site for next year will look like. Starting September 2004 we are taking off for 6-8 months of traveling and ministry overseas. We recognize that our primary touchpoint with hundreds of friends, family, and strangers will be through the web. Kory Pence and his media company Under Fire Solutions is taking on the project of making that dream a reality.

Times of planning like this have the net effect of making me incredibly excited about the days to come. Starting five months from today I will be living out of my backpack, constantly encountering new people and experiences, ministering alongside brothers & sisters in Christ, and living an adventure each and every day!

This summer will be an adventure in its own right. Summit Church in Aurora, CO has agreed to take me on as their first intern. It is a church plant spear-headed by Chris Williams. They will be launching their services on Easter Sunday. Keep them in your prayers, k?
